I bought the Fellowes 4 Compartment Literature Organizer.THANKFULLY, I paid $19.95 for it at OfficeMax.Yet I am so disappointed by this terrible product I am mad at wasting my $19.95.If I had lost $35 (the Amazon price as of today), I would be furious ...The organizer looks good in the picture.A laminate box with nice straight-looking shelves.Its obvious you'll be putting it together.No surprises there.
But then you open the box.
The instructions are for a different ... similar ... but different product.You need a hammer.No hammer was supplied.You need glue.The glue was supplied!!But it was all dried up and unusable (Elmer's works perfectly).
Or at least would work perfectly if the drilled holes in the unit were drilled with any thought whatsoever as to the peg size to be placed within.(they weren't ...)The pegs were too small.Consequently, the pegs offer little in the way of support while the unit is under construction.Further, after the glue dries, you will still not have wood to wood (or should I say wood to particleboard) support ... only glue will be doing any mechanical work.
Then there's the shelves.Folded cardboard with a fancy plastic edging.The edging makes the shelves look good in the picture ... straight, maybe even as if they, too, are genuine particleboard.
This product is the obvious result of American executives at Fellowes (if indeed there are any such persons) who have no pride in their company, their country, or their customers.Made in China, the materials and labor in this product could not have cost Fellowes more than about $.89.That's 89 CENTS.And they have the gall to charge $19.95 for it?Or $35.00 for it?OMG!!!
The design, size, shape, and styling of the product are perfectly acceptable in a budget-minded office.Made from a higher quality of particle board the box could be okay.(this stuff was terrible, not well compressed, of lame composition (flaky)) With holes drilled correctly for the supplied pegs, the unit would be more sturdy.And with hardboard (Masonite) shelves the unit would be sturdier, longer lasting, cleanable, etc.Enclosing glue was a nice touch, though unnecessary in any normal office environment.Notifying the buyer that they'd need a hammer would help us be prepared.Its okay to assemble things yourself ... just be open, honest, and thorough about it.
I've noticed Fellowes sells a lot of stuff that is getting cheaper by the minute.Steel moving to plastic.Parts getting thinner.Castings replaced by stampings.Wood by particle board.Particle board by cardboard.All so the snot-nosed MBAs at Fellowes can drive BMWs around the suburbs of Chicago.This has got to end.I will NOT AGAIN buy a Fellowes product until I hear they've been bought by someone who can actually operate a company.
THERE.If they were TRULY GREEDY CAPITALISTS ... they would have made me a great product and dug deeper into my wallet.But they're not.They're sissies.FELLOWES ... you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Now ... being in the O'Hare area of Chi-town ... let me hope and pray that these guys are not "GoodFellowes".My kneecaps won't be able to take the abuse ...
