I needed a lamp to fit in my new computer desk hutch, so it couldn't be too tall, but I wanted more adjustability and a heavier base than the usual cheapo gooseneck. This fits the bill nicely but it is a little pricey (why I only gave 4 stars). I use a CFL bulb (energy savings!) with it.
